InkScape

InkScape is a free and open-source vector graphics editor developed by SodiPodi.  It is used for the creation and editing of vector graphics such as illustrations, diagrams, line arts, charts, logos and complex paintings. What it means is that InkScape can get amazing results just in few clicks without making things complicated and tools difficult.

There are dozens of online tutorials available which makes the use of this software even easier. Drawing with InkScape is easy for newcomers.

The types of files that this software supports are many vector and non vector image types. InkScape’s native vector graphics format is Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG). Apart from SVG, many other formats can be imported and exported.

It includes a series of tools for drawing and adding shapes and lines. This software allows you to add each effect in a manner that ait does not disturb the composition of the image file

InkScape includes a large number of different filters and effects which can be used for the editing of images and graphics. Textures and colours can be added rapidly and objects can be modified resulting in professional vector drawings. InkScape has many features such as object creation features( drawing, text tools, embedded bitmaps, clones) object manipulation features( affine transformation, z order transformation, layers, grouping), fill and stroke features( colour picker, colour selector, gradient selector), rendering features( full anti alias display, alpha transparency) and miscellaneous features.

PhotoScape

PhotScape is an image editing program developed by MOOI tech. PhotoScape is an amazing image editor. Its popularity is due to the fact that it has wide range of amazing features which can be used with ease. It supports raw image format, JPEG, PNG, GIF and Animated GIF. Along with the features that it has, PhotoScape’s interface is also amazing. It gives the ease to the users with which they can optimize their photos, edit them, make collages etc. it also offers various filters to be applied to the pictures.

PhotoScape has the facility of renaming pictures and adding texts, colour picker and a screen capture utility. The  basic image editing tools that it includes are paintbrush, erasers, resizing of pictures, brightness and colour adjustment of pictures, light balance, backlight correction, adding frames, , mosaic mode, adding text to images, drawing pictures as clipart, cropping the images, adding filters, removal of red eye , blooming and clone stamp.

PhotoScape can also be used for creating animated GIFs, PNG graphics, web graphics, and slideshows. It can create and edit layers and convert RAW image file to JPG and batch process images.

It has various features such as it has a viewer, an editor, batch editor, splitter, colour picker, raw converter, has a face search, multiple pages can be used to make a photo, combined images can be made, animated gifs can be made.

GIMP

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free and open source software raster graphics editor developed by The Gimp development team. The primary use of GIMP is as an image re-toucher and editor. It is available in many versions, modified to work on various platforms such as Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. GTK Runtime Environment is the pre requisite for GIMP. GIMP is the open source graphics and image editing software that has established its name over the years. Some find it worthy to e a contender of Photoshop

Some of the tools that GIMP provides are the paintbrush, pencil, airbrush, clone, gradient, paint bucket and blending tools. GIMP has all the Photoshop like tools, if not, then there is a replacement included for those tools. Gimp also includes full support for layers and plug-in, like adobe has for windows and 100 different plug-in can be installed of gimp for windows. The interface is very friendly and easy to use as well when it comes to image editing and manipulation. Another huge advantage is that GIMP has a lot of online tutorials available with basics for each platform being the same

GIMP can add text to an image, apply special effects to a picture, EXIF data can be viewed, and animated gifs and PNG graphics can be made. It can also create web graphics and create and edit layers.

Gimp has many features such as clone tool, perspective clone tools, healing brush, blur and sharpen tools, smudge tools, dodge and burn tool, GEGL, automations and plug-in and many more.

MyPaint

MyPaint is a free and open-source raster graphics editor, developed by MyPaint Contributors, with the aim of painting rather than image editing and post processing. MyPaint is available for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux.

MyPaint supports various platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Os x and Linux. Plus, it allows users with different devices to draw with preferred hardware such as mouse or virtual pen.

MyPaint is free drawing software that includes various number of tools and various different brushes, pens, other drawing tools which helps in drawing. MyPaint is an alternative to the Paint (the drawing tool offered by the Windows), but it is also on advantage as it has various new customised tools and colour options.

This program can replicate oil paint, watercolours, chalk or irk. The interface is very easy to use and it is not difficult at all to find these options in this program. Every option is easily viewable, thanks to the interface.

It has many features such as this software is supported and designed for pressure sensitive tablets, the interface is simple and easy to use, it has a huge brush library, has the support of basic layers, has various configuration options, the canvas is unlimited with fixed size, and many more.

Paint.net

paint.net (sometimes stylized as Paint.NET) is a freeware raster graphics editor program for Microsoft Windows, developed on the .NET Framework. Paint.net was originally created by Rick Brewster.

Paint.net has all the essential and important tools that are required to match the modern day image editing skills. it completely takes over Microsoft paint and the two programs cannot be compared at all. What makes the use of paint.net easy is the various numbers of tutorials available online on different forums and websites.Paint.net is better than its contemporary’s adobe Photoshop and Corel draw when it comes to basic features. The program has been modified to work on windows 7 smoothly but can also work on some slow systems and fast systems as well.

Paint.net allows the users to apply adjustments to their work such as auto-levels, contrast adjustment, inversion, colour levels, hues, pasteurize and many more. Built in and basic effects available are standard blurring, sharpening of the image, removal of red eye, photo softening, various distortions effects and many more. To summarize, paint.net contains various number of Photoshop like effects.

Paint.NET offers the functionality of redo and undo any act from history window. Paint.NET can be used for adding text to an image, applying special effects to a picture and  creating PNG graphics and create web graphics. It has many features such as special effects, power tools, curve tools, magic wand tools, gradient tools, and zoom in and zoom out tool, and many more.

Krita

Krita is a raster graphics editor based on Qt 5 and the KDE Frameworks 5 developed by KDE. It is a free and open source program. It is developed to give people affordable art tools. The main use of Krita is to work as a digital painting application and is similar to its contemporaries like Corel painter and SAI to some extent.

What makes Krita different from other software is the ability of Krita to work with both bitmap and vector illustration. The interface is quite easy to use as well with every tool marked for users ease. The developers try to avoid complexity and simplify user interaction by only adding features that are relevant to drawing and painting.

Krita supports a large number of file formats. Krita’s native document format is Krita Document (.kra), it can also work with Open Raster document as a saving format and along with that it can even support open and edit Photoshop’s own psd file.

It has many features such as different type of brushes, brush engines, different modes of canvas, Dockers, raster tools, vector tools, filters, layers, generators, and many more.

SUMO Paint

SUMO Paint is a free online  image editor which is  similar to Adobe Photoshop  with its features. It was developed by Sumo Limited in 2007.

It is an online editor that does not require installation. It is regarded as one of the most unique photo editing and painting application that works online. Apart being online, it supports the images on your desktop and you can save it on Cloud. SUMO Paint only supports certain file formats such as JPEG, PNG and GIF. It only allows the users to save the images in JPEG, PNG formats and the native format called sumo files.

Sumo paint has its painting features similar to that of Pixlr (a web based application). It has many features similar to Photoshop but it aims more towards illustration than photo editing, on which Photoshop lays emphasis. Sumo paint is also used for teaching purposes like how to edit images. It has various other features such as layering capability, image adjustment tools (changing the colour balance etc), options for blending images, adding and removing shadows and bevels, adding filters to images, sharpening and blurring, and many more.
